Understanding Seller Fees on GearTrader
Learn how GearTrader's fee structure works, including platform fees, Stripe payment processing fees, and sales tax collection.
Platform Fees
GearTrader charges a platform fee of 2.5% on all transactions. This fee is applied to both the buyer and the seller:
- Buyer Fee: 2.5% of the seller's asking price is added to the total cost, which is visible to the buyer as the Listing Price.
- Seller Fee: 2.5% of the asking price is deducted from the seller's payout.
Stripe Payment Processing Fees
Stripe handles all payment processing for GearTrader. Their fee structure is:
- 2.9% of the total transaction amount: This includes the Listing Price (Ask Price + Buyer Fee) and any applicable shipping costs or sales tax.
- $0.30 flat fee: Added per transaction.
The Stripe fee is calculated on the full transaction total to ensure secure and efficient payment processing.
Sales Tax Collection
In compliance with local tax laws, Stripe calculates, collects, and remits sales tax on behalf of GearTrader where applicable. Sales tax is added to the buyer's total cost at checkout, but it does not affect your payout as a seller.

Fee Breakdown Examples
Here’s an example calculation to illustrate how fees are applied:
- Ask Price: $100.00
- Buyer Fee (2.5%): $2.50
- Listing Price: $102.50
- Seller Fee (2.5%): $2.50
- Stripe Fee (2.9% + $0.30): $3.27 (calculated on $102.50)
- Seller Payout: $94.23 ($100.00 - $2.50 - $3.27)
If shipping or sales tax applies, Stripe’s processing fee will include these amounts in the calculation.
